Brookes second fastest in the wet at Donington.
Heavy rain didn't stop HANNspree Stiggy Motorsport Honda rider Joshua Brookes from taking provisional second place for Sundays grid at Donington Park today. The Australian managed to set his fastest lap, just as conditions worsened due to heavy rain, with a time of 1.48.190.
Team mate Robbin Harms didn't want to take any unnecessary chances today, so rode defensively and ended 22nd. Like all riders, he is hoping that the conditions will be better tomorrow.
Joshua - 2nd, 148.190
We experimented a bit with the settings on the bike this morning, but it didn't give me the improvements I was hoping for. I couldn't get comfortable and it was difficult finding grip in the wet. For qualifying, we went back to what we originally started off with and I immediately felt a difference and began going faster. It started to rain even more heavy towards the end of the session and the conditions got dramatically worse. After that it was really difficult to improve. At the end of the session I lost the rear and crashed - nothing big, just because it was too wet and slippery.
Robbin - 22nd, 1.52.425
Hoping the weather will improve tomorrow, I decided to take it easy today, just focusing on getting comfortable with the bike and a finding a good base setting. It is definitely possible to go faster in the wet, and 22nd is not very good, but I didn't't want to risk anything today. We tried different rain tyres in combination with different suspension adjustments and it all felt good. It took me quite a few laps getting back into the rhythm today, but I guess that's normal after such a long break off the bike. Hopefully tomorrow I can start pushing for a good qualifying time.

The weekend didn't start out so easy for us, the weather conditions are really difficult and everybody had to put in a bit extra work to manage the conditions. Joshua managed to do well in the wet today. He wasn't very happy in the morning session, but it got a lot better in the afternoon. Robbin is taking it a bit easy as he his hoping for improvement in the conditions tomorrow. We will have to see how it goes.
